Mister PiBB
Post by chevron on Jun 23, 2005, 3:16pm

Who out there has heard of Mister Pibb soda pop? It is now called Pibb Xtra but still ofter referred to as Mr. Pibb. Tastes like Dr. Pepper, but not as spicy and is sweeter. I can't find it anywhere in Michigan in bottles or cans, but it is available at the fountain at many places.

I found a Kroger store in Troy, Ohio that has it in cans, a ways from my home but have gone there on occasion.

Any other Pibb fans out there?

Mr. Pibb is okay, it is the Coca-Cola variant of Dr. Pepper, it seems. I usually drink Pepsi, though. :)

I've come across Mr. Pibb at some point here in NY but I never noticed because I don't like that kind of soda . But I had the same problem with Surge , a soda that's similar to , but greener and somehow even more delicious than Mountain Dew or Mello Yello . I remember seeing it while visiting relatives down south and was later able to find it as a fountain drink at some convenience stores here . But shortly after I wasn't able to find it at all ; the gas stations and convenience stores that had it all seemed to replace it with Sierra Mist :(.
Then over the summer while I was working in Virginia for a couple weeks I discovered a soda called Vault which tasted just like Surge . I had hoped to pick some up to share with friends up here but by the time I was in the DC area I wasn't able to find it anymore . I'm now kicking myself for not stocking up when I had the chance .

Out here in the Upper Midwest, Mr. Pibb is fairly common. You can slurp it down at buffets and buy it at extravagant prices at gas stations.

As far as I can tell, it's a chintzy knock-off of Dr. Pepper. I mean, Pibb's not even a doctor! Nonetheless, there have been times when I drank Mr. Pibb and ate Mr. Peanut while watching a video from Mr. Movies. At least there ought to have been such a time. And I should of course have been listening to Mr. Mister all along.

I like Mr. Pibb alright, but given the choice I would always choose Dr. Pepper over Mr. Pibb. Walmart's version is called Dr. Thunder and HyVee's is Dr. HyVee (yeah I know, really creative).

I haven't seen any Surge commercials in a long time, I wonder if they stopped making it.

I miss Surge too! Never seen this Vault, but living in the DC area, perhaps I just need to go a bit south. Oh, and I'm also the guy who liked Blue Pepsi. And Crystal Pepsi, for that matter, though that was longer ago, and a few more people liked it.

The one that really frustrates me is Cherry Mello Yello. I saw it ONCE, driving through Ohio in summer 2003, but never again. Shoulda tried it, but I figured I'd always have another chance... :(

And I'm really hoping Holiday Spice Pepsi comes back this year!

There is a big store chain called Publix around the country. They aren't anywhere near where I live, mostly down south. But, I have been there while visiting my brother in Florida. Publix has their own version of Dr. Pepper as well called, Dr. Publix. Not bad, but nothing still beats Dr. Pepper.

I remember Crystal Pepsi, oh my goodness. Summer of 1993 when I was 15. I LOVED that stuff. I was sad to see it go. It tasted the best with pizza.

My goodness, it's amazing how many different types of soda pop they're coming out with.

Crystal Pepsi was awesome! They should come out with it again.

My personal favorite is a Chicago-only flavor called Green River. It is a dark green with a sort of lemon-lime taste, although it's flavor is completely unique. It makes the best ice cream floats. If you are ever traveling through Northern Illinois, check it out!

How about the new Mountain Dews? I didn't like Code Red or Pitch Black, but the orange variety was ok and the Mtn. Dew Baja Blast at Taco Bell was great! I wish they would put that out in cans.

Code Red for some reason upsets my stomach. :(

I like most sodas. But my favorite comes from Winchester,Ky. It is called ALE-81 ( A late one ) . It tastes like mountain dew and sprite mixed with ginger ale. I drink it like water at my family reunions.

That sounds interesting, I should look for that when I'm out of state. Speaking of out of state, my parents got this soda called Wink from Pennsylvania about 12 or so years ago. It's another citrus type of soda and it was good stuff. Anyone ever hear of it?

P.S., Hollywood, I sent you a PM the other day. http://piesintheface.proboards22.com/index.cgi?action=pm

They call it pop in Michigan and western NY, they call it soda in NYC AFAIK, they call it soda in California, and down south, they call it Coke (evin if it's Dr. Pepper or Mountain Dew!)
I have always been a soda/pop drinker, I drink about 2 liters a day I have heard of Publix, I believe they are big in Florida. Pime, do you live in Kansas or Iowa? I believe Pibb Xtra is bottled there. I know Hy-vee is in those states. Dr. Thunder is close to Pibb. Pibb Xtra is my favorite of the "Dr." sodas, as it seems to have a hint of cinnamon in the flavor. I got some fridge packs of cans in Ohio at a Kroger. Although I was in other grocery stores and convenience stores in the Cincinnati/Dayton area and did not see Pibb Xtra. I have not seen it bottled anywhere in Michigan, but it is available at some soda fountains, such as Logan's Roadhouse, Chuck E Cheeses, Buffalo Wildwings, and at my local Meijer gas station (Meijer is the equivalent to a Walmart Supercenter).
Hollywood, I have a few cans of Ale 8 One in my garage, got them the same place I got the Pibb in Ohio. Personally, I prefer Vernors over Ale 8 One.

Faygo is big in Michigan (a brand not sold nationwide).
Anyone else know where else I can get Pibb Xtra in bottles/cans?

You can get Mr.Pibb where I'm from in Paducah,Ky in just about any store. Also I have had Faygo, but its been a long time since I've had it. I like the strawberry the best. Back when I was 16, I went to Miami,Florida. They had this one soda called Iron Beer. It tasted like Root beer mixed with all kinds of fruit. It came from Cuba. It wasn't very good. Also recently I tried Mountain Dew's new energy drink. It kind of tastes like Surge. Not bad

I'm fascinated by the bewildering variety of brand names and labels you have in America for soda drinks. I've never heard of most of them as they're not sold where I live - at least not with the same names.

Of course, we have "Coca-Cola" and "Pepsi", and I also know of "Sprite" and "Mountain Dew", but none of the others mentioned here ring a bell.

In Australia, carbonated drinks that you Americans call "soda pop" or "soda", we call "soft drinks".

Yeah, faygo is pretty popular here in Michigan. i don't care for it that much, though. It's Dr. Pepper for me.

Chevron, I live in Iowa. Good P.I. work outta you! :)
I just had a Mr. Pibb Friday morning while out getting good shopping deals.
It hit the spot with my breakfast......I normally don't do pop for breakfast, but
when you're up shopping by 5 AM, the norms go out the window.

I was coming back from my cousin's wedding in Miami, Florida with my dad and we stopped at a gas station in Alabama on the way home. I found something called " Cheerwine". It kind of tasted like Dr. Pepper mixed with Big Red Soda. It was pretty good.

I've never heard of Big Red Soda. What flavor is that?
Re: Mister PiBB

It's sort of like a red cream soda. It tastes like cherry. It's produced by the same company that makes Royal Crown Cola.

Post by tomallen on Mar 20, 2006, 12:15pm

Ah, good old Royal Crown, or (as most of us Midwesterners, by which I mean my brothers and sisters and friends, refer to it) "RC" Cola! We didn't have it much at home, but when we went to my grandma on my dad's side, she always had a fridge stocked with it. My favorite was their vanilla cream soda. Even now RC Vanilla Cream Soda brings back memories of Grandma's place.

Wow. Thanks for the taste flashback, folks. Boy, I miss her, and those wonderful visits we had.

I have a cousin from Miami,Florida who now lives outside of Nashville, Tn. Whenever he'd come to my house, he'd drink RC's like they were going out of style!

I am going to King's Island Easter weekend, and I called a couple of Kroger stores in the Cincinnati area to check if they have Pibb Xtra in the fridge packs, and they told me they have it. There seems to be a slight difference in the taste from the can compared to the fountain.
